Dr Michelle Deaker, managing partner of One Ventures, called on the government to promote the diversion of superannuation fund money into innovation. “At the moment you can’t tick a box (in a member’s superannuation fund) which says you want to support innovation.”
She said that if “we really believe” innovation is a key area for investment, it should be given some priority. At the moment, she said, Australian super fund money earmarked for innovation was largely being placed in the US, with a minority going to Asia and Europe.
“We’ve got to connect with the younger generation, so that they understand that if you’re not disrupting then you’re going to be disrupted,” Dr Deaker said.
